smb:// protocol for Linux users

Reported by: uncle_fungus Assigned to: uncle_fungus (accepted)

Description

Investigate the possibility of hooking into libsmbclient on Linux, so the smb:// kioslave can be used to access networked clients over samba. This should remove the need for people to mount SMB shares into their local filesystem, which would be good for those new to Linux.

The use of FUSE could be a good way to do that with fusesmb, curlftpfs, sshfs to give a transparent access for fahmon to the data into the local filesystem but it necessite an external configuration to integrate it (fuse is installed by default in recents linux distributions)
